What is the Bards Initiative?
Performance Poetry by the Bards of the New Age
The Bards Initiative is an organization dedicated to connecting poetry communities, while promoting the writing and performance of poetry. A multi-purpose poetry project, the Initiative provides avenues for poets to share their work and encourages the use of poetry for social change.
In addition, the Initiative aims to make use of modern technologies to help spread, encourage and inspire poetry, particularly in the younger generations. It is the core belief of the Bards Initiative that poetry is the voice of the people and can be used to help create a sense of sharing and community..
How was the Bards Initiative started?
Breaking traditional stereotypes of poetry
The Bards Initiative was started by four likeminded poets: Kristin Capellini, Marc Rosen, Nick Hale, and James P. Wagner. They shared a common vision of a poetry society that helped break the traditional stereotypes of poetry confined to the classroom and held reinvigorate poetry for the uses of sharing and social commentary. The Bards Initiative kicked off with its first official reading on June 23rd 2010 at Wizards Café in East Northport and has been setting up poetic events ever since.

Since its first official reading on June 23rd 2010 at Wizard's Café in East Northport, The Bards Initiative has been bringing together Long Island poetry groups through readings, events, and anthologies.
What is the Bards Initiative aiming to do next?
Using technology to share poetry
The Bards Initiative will continue to work on poetry anthologies and schedule readings. We have several projects in the works, the biggest of which is Sounds of Solace: Meditative Verse, a book of poems for meditation. In addition to these projects, we also plan to host poetry writing workshops.
